Dear Jane,
I have always shied away from keeping a diary. To me it always seemed too dangerous to put my secrets down where others might find them. But the idea of a blog has finally gotten the better of my curiosoty. I dont have to write my thoughts down and keep them at home where others know it's mine. I can type online anonymously and finally pour out my heart as I need to. No one needs to know who I really am.
I have decided, however, that I like the idea of a diary. I look forward to expressing things I will not say aloud. And in tribute to Anne Frank and her famous diary confidant, Kitty, I will address my letters to Jane. This way I feel I am talking to a friend even if I don't know who it is. I chose the name Jane for several reasons. First of all I like the classic name. It rings with a feeling of wisom and honesty. I feel as if my secrets are safe with her and that she is a true friend who will never judge. Second, I am a romantic at heart and a lifelong fan of Jane Austen. She is my inspiration to be the strong and independant woman I need to be.
And so I start my letters to Jane and hope they will inspire me more.
